Sureshwaren still has a lot to learn
03 February 2007A1 Team India was back on track today, for qualifying at the Eastern Creek circuit, ahead of tomorrow's A1GP Sydney, Australia. Parthiva Sureshwaren makes his racing debut with the team in Australia, having previously completed the rookie session at the Indonesia round in December.
The 26 year-old racer put the Indian car on the 10th row of the grid, for the seventh round in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport. Competing in his first full weekend with the team, Sureshwaren has the least experience in an A1GP car of any driver competing at Eastern Creek this weekend.
The 520 bhp car is among the most powerful in single seater racing, and also features a PowerBoost button which provides bursts of power up to 550 bhp.
Commenting on his day at Eastern Creek, Sureshwaren said, "There's a lot of pressure with the one lap qualifying, that's something I'm not used to. I'm more familiar with an hour long qualifying session, so I'm still learning to get the best out of that situation. I wasn't able to get the best out of the new tyres either. It was surprisingly hard to find the limit on the new rubber, compared to the old tyres.
"There's still so much more to come from my driving and from the car. I think I should improve through the races tomorrow and put the car further towards the front. It went ok, but I made a couple of mistakes and on two of my quickest laps I got on the dirt in the corners, which I'm a bit frustrated about. But I'm confident we can make up some more time tomorrow."
