Halliday buoyed by recall

Halliday buoyed by recall

21 February 2007

New Zealand driver Matt Halliday is determined to put the pressure on pace-setting Germany at this weekend's A1GP World Cup of Motorsport around the 3.28km waterfront street circuit in Durban.

The Kiwi team heads into Round 8 of the 11-round A1GP Championship in second place on the overall points table, 25 points adrift of the runaway Germans. Halliday raced in the Porsche GT3 Cup series in Palmerston North last weekend and said a lot of people approached him to say 'you have to knock off those Germans'.

"My response was: I'm not going there to make muffins," Halliday said. "I'm conscious France is just five points back and we have to continue the momentum that has been built over the last three rounds."

In those past three meetings Jonny Reid has achieved six podium places - two 1sts, two 3rds and two 2nds - to catapult Black Beauty from 12th equal to second in the championship.

Reid is sitting out this round, providing Halliday with his third outing in the first eight rounds of the current season.
