The race in Beijing won't be organised in A1GP's next season. The organisers of the two Chinese races, held in Shanghai and Beijing, will drop the race in Beijing as it was financially not a successful race.
A key official with Haiyi Motor, the Chinese promoter of the A1GP and owner of A1 Team China, said they couldn't afford to stage the event twice anymore in a calendar year. "We have worked our socks off to get everything right for both rounds over the past few months," Guan Yunke, deputy general manager of Haiyi, told the Shanghai Daily. "But the financial burden to stage two races in a year is overwhelming with huge losses. Therefore we decided to drop the Beijing leg next season."
"Despite its growing popularity, A1 remains a hard-sell to sponsors," Guan claimed.
