Team Malaysia's Alex Yoong converted his pole position into a win in the sprint race at the Mexican Grand Prix. The ex-Minardi driver led from the start but was closely pursued by Team Great Britain's Oliver Jarvis throughout, who ended up just two seconds behind. Team Australia's Ian Dyk made it onto the final step of the podium having started the race from ninth place after a first lap incident allowed him to get amongst the front runners.
Team Mexico's Salvador Duran caused the shunt when he went into the back of Team Brazil's Bruno Junqeira. Junqeira subsequently retired as did Germany's Christian Vietoris on his A1GP debut, and Portugal's Alvaro Parente, Ireland's Richard Lyons and Lebanon's Allam Khodair also got caught up in the fracas and finished down the order. It was a shame for Duran who did well to qualify fourth at his home Grand Prix. He went into the pits to change his front wing but could not make up the ground in the 12-lap race, finishing in seventeeth.
Team France's Jean Karl Vernay who also started high up in fifth place spun out on lap two, which allowed the likes of South Africa's Adrian Zaugg, who started eleventh on the grid, to finish fourth. Team USA's Jonathan Summerton ended up fifth followed by China's Ho Pin Tung in sixth.
