Ian Dyk is frustrated with himself for being unable to do better than 20th in qualifying for the Shanghai Grand Prix. He says he is particularly disappointed as he appreciates all the hard work that Team Australia has put in. However, the Aussie claims he simply cannot get to grips with the car around the Shanghai circuit.
Dyk told A1GP.com: "I was as keen as everyone else to carry the momentum here. But we are way back in qualifying and its certainly not where we hoped to be. It has just been a really tough couple of days, to be honest.
"The team are doing a great job and working their hearts out, and we're trying everything. But I am struggling to feel comfortable behind the wheel. The crew has been working flat out and today they have given me a good race car - a lot better than it was yesterday.
"But the job I needed to do in qualifying - I didn't do it. I had four tough sessions and had a spin on one of my new tyre runs. It was definitely a case of overdriving.
"Mexico was a viscous circuit and you really needed to throw the car around a lot to get the best out of it. But this is one of the latest circuits in the world and it is entirely different. It is taking me a bit of time to get myself working to it and get myself as comfortable as possible."
He added on his chances for the race tomorrow: "With a few tweaks we can improve," he added. "If I can bring a bit of consistency back to it and that comfortable driving I did in Mexico then I could do well. Sunday is a long day, and A1GP is a classic category for occasionally giving us some mixed up results."
