Robbie Kerr won the sprint race in Shanghai for Team Great Britain having started on pole. The Brit crossed the line just three tenths ahead of New Zealand's Jonny Reid to claim his first A1 GP victory after 35 starts.

Starting from fourth on the grid, Team Germany's Nico Hulkenberg managed to reduce the points lost to title rivals Team New Zealand by claiming the last spot on the podium. Team USA's Jonathan Summerton, who started third, ended up two places down in fifth after he said he merely wanted to survive the sprint race to give himself the best chance for the feature race later on today.

Sixth on the grid Team Switzerland, courtesy of Sebastien Buemi, was the other team to get ahead of Summerton and claim fourth place. Buemi had leapfrogged India's Narain Karthikeyan as well, who also lost out to Asian rivals Team Malaysia - Alex Yoong having got past to take sixth place. South Africa, the Netherlands and Italy made up the top ten respectively.

Team Ireland finished twelfth after Richard Lyons switched to the spare car, which had been used by TV commentator John Watson for a test run on Friday.

Lyons had said about the change on the grid: ""We just don't know what the problem is really, and this move is just to continue to try and rule out problems with our car. The main thing is to get to the finish in the Sprint. The car felt fine and I didn't feel any problems with it when I approached the grid."
