Kerr to race at Britain's home Grand Prix

19 April 2007

Robbie Kerr will race for A1 Team Great Britain in its home race at Brands Hatch, the team has confirmed. Speculation was rife as to who would be awarded the prestigious drive in the British squad, after both of the team's drivers won races in the last two meetings. However, Shanghai Sprint race winner Robbie Kerr has been given the nod to race over Mexico Feature winner Oliver Jarvis.

Jarvis will be at Brands Hatch however, and will participate in the rookie and developing nation session. He is still eligible having not competed in six races yet.

"I'm really happy to be racing for the team at Brands," said Kerr. "I'm looking forward to competing in front of the home crowd, I enjoyed my last experience there and hope to give them something more to cheer about this time round.

"It's a fantastic boost to go to Brands off the back of a great weekend in China, scoring my first win and being competitive throughout. We came close to winning at Brands last season and I'm confident we've got the set-up to do it this year and become the first nation in A1GP to win their home race."

Team-mate Jarvis admitted to being disappointed to not have landed the drive. Jarvis said: "I would have loved the chance to compete in another A1GP race, especially in my home race, and the last race of the season. I understand the decision made by the team, Robbie was effectively assured of the drive before Mexico City but after that things were maybe a little in doubt.

"I have to give Robbie credit though as he went out in China and performed giving Tony [Clements] a hard decision to make for the final round!"
