Kerr fastest out of the Hatch

Robbie Kerr, a master of the Brands Hatch circuit, cemented Team Great Britian's intention to win its first home Grand Prix by dominating the opening practice session. The Britain was over half a second quicker than second fastest Narain Karthikeyan, who was in turn around a couple of tenths faster than France's Loic Duval in third.

Jonathan Summerton was fourth fastest for USA whilst Nico Hulkenberg as ever was near the top of the timesheets in fifth for Germany, albeit almost a second off Kerr's pace-setter. China, Malaysia, Switzerland, South Africa and Canada then made up the top ten.

The session was, however, restricted by three red flags. The first came out after 15 minutes and was caused by Jonny Reid, who could take no further part in the practice. This will hinder the driver's acclimitisation to the track even more following Team New Zealand's decision to split the driving duties between Reid and Halliday this weekend. A collision between Lebanon's Allam Khodair and Pakistan's Nur Ali then brought out the second red flag before Robbie Kerr himself stopped the session towards the end, when he went into the gravel testing the limits of the car around the challenging Westfield right-hander.
