Team Great Britain will start at the front of the grid for its home Grand Prix tomorrow, after Robbie Kerr snatched pole in qualifying at Brands Hatch today. The 27-year-old put himself at the top of the overall timesheet with an impressive time of 1:14.381s in the dying moments of the third segment to oust France's Loic Duval from provisional pole.
It looked secure for Team Great Britain until the last few seconds of the last segment served a shock for the team when Nico Hulkenberg went fastest for Team Germany. Kerr was still on a flying lap but his tyres were dirty from when he went off on his warm up lap, which seemed like it might hinder his chances of putting in a quicker time. However, Kerr proved his mastery around the sweeps of Brands Hatch to win back pole position for tomorrow's sprint race with a 1: 14.518s.
Hulkenberg ended up second, only 0.129s behind on aggregate, with his two best times from the four segments clocked as 1:14.430s and 1:14.598s. Having been on provisional pole until the end of third segment, Duval will start third for tomorrow's sprint race alongside Enrico Toccacelo for Team Italy on the second row. The third row is an Asian blend of India and Malaysia respectively whilst Sebastien Buemi of Team Switzerland, Jeroen Bleekemolen of Team the Netherlands, Matt Halliday of Team New Zealand and Adrian Zaugg of Team South Africa make up the rest of the top ten.
