A1 Team Italy's Enrico Toccacelo is hoping he will be called upon to lead the Azzurri in next season's A1GP World Cup of Motorsport.
The 28-year-old experienced racer rejoined the series at this season's third round in Beijing, instantly finding form to record the team's maiden A1GP win in the Feature race.
However, results were mixed until the season finale at Brands Hatch, when the team felt they turned a corner with qualifying setup. Now Toccacelo hopes the foundations of the team are in place for a championship assault in 2007/08.
"In the last few races we were always fast but only in the race," Toccacelo said. "We were never working on the tyres and then we came to Brands Hatch and we were focused on qualifying. We found the solution. It was just a shame it was for the last race."
"I really hope I can be back next season, because I really like this series and this championship. I hope to be here next year and really hope to fight for the championship. It is going to be more open next year and we have a chance."
