Giebler: 'Rice would be good for USA'

Phil Giebler would welcome former Indianapolis 500 winner Buddy Rice to A1 Team USA next season, should Rice reach an agreement with the team.

A1 Team USA seat holder Rick Weidinger admitted recently that he had spoken with Rice about the possibility of the 31-year-old driving for the team in A1GP next season, however no deal has been done yet. A1 Team USA co-entered Rice in last month's Indianapolis 500 IndyCar race.

Giebler, who raced in six meetings for USA last season, believes signing a driver with such a pedigree would be beneficial for the team. "He (Rice) is capable of scoring points and podiums and that's all the better," Giebler said. "A1GP is a nations' cup and any situation that is going to help the team is going to be better for us."

Giebler himself is hoping to drive in more races next season, and believes the team can finish in the top five.

Giebler added: "We just have to be smart in the pre-season to put us in the best position to get the most out of car so we can be in the top five. We even have a chance to be in the top three. We're improving quickly and we can really build on a successful year.

"Whatever is the best for the team is what I want. I would love to do more races. Unfortunately I've not had any time to discuss that yet but I'd love to do it."
