Alex Yoong believes A1 Team Malaysia can be genuine title contenders next season - if the squad can sort out the inconsistency that blighted its 2006/07 campaign. Yoong, one of only two drivers to compete in every race of the second World Cup of Motorsport, scored three wins over the course of the year, but also had several weekends where precious few points were scored.

The 30-year-old is set to return to lead the team's attack in 2007/08, and reckons that the team can be optimistic about its chances. 'We dropped a place in the championship on the final day to sixth - but overall we cannot be too disappointed,' Yoong said. 'Overall it was a good year and those three race wins wasn't bad. We have been very quick, it is just we haven't really been very consistent.
'We had two engineer changes and that didn't help things at all. But we can definitely look towards winning the championship next year. We just need to replicate our race winning form at every race.'
