Dyk confirmed for Australia

27 June 2007

Ian Dyk has been announced as A1 Team Australia's main driver for next season. The 21-year-old burst onto the A1GP scene this season by scoring a podium in his maiden race in Mexico City. He will now be part of the team for the entire 2007/08 campaign.

The New South Wales Driver said: 'Being named as the number one driver for A1 Team Australia is a dream come true. A1GP is now in its third season and it is really starting to gain momentum and is getting the recognition it deserves. 'This is one of the few truly global motorsport series and to have the opportunity to represent my country as the top driver is just incredible.'

Dyk was first spotted by team boss Alan Jones after winning the Formula Three race that supported the A1GP Eastern Creek, Australia in 2005. Dyk was then given the opportunity of competing in selected rookie sessions this season and after just 67 laps of practice combined, he was given the chance to race for the team in Mexico.

Jones said: 'He is a hugely talented driver with enormous raw potential, so I am delighted to formally announce him as our number one driver for the third season of A1GP.

'With his obvious skills and plenty of laps under his belt in the off season, I feel confident that our team will produce some impressive results in the 2007/08 season.'

Dyk will be in the car for the official A1GP pre-season test in Silverstone, Great Britain in August. He will also keep in trim with a Formula Three testing programm.
