Hinchcliffe shines in Canada

24 July 2007

James Hinchcliffe continued to put himself in the shop window for A1 Team Canada's Season Three driver-line up, by recording another podium finish in the Champ Car Atlantic series last weekend.

Hinchliffe finished third in the first of two races held at the airport track of Edmonton, which was his fifth podium finish in the category in 2007. He had already secured pole position in qualifying.

'The car was certainly good enough to win but the no-blocking rule means you're basically a sitting duck at the re-starts,' Hinchcliffe said, describing how he was overtaken directly after safety car periods.

'I survived the first re-start but they weren't going to fall for the same trick twice and they got by me. After that no-one made any gains, we were all stuck together. If there had been another caution period I might have been able to pass back up but it didn't happen."

Hinchcliffe finished the weekend's other race in 10th. A1 Team Canada team-mate Kevin Lacroix was not as successful and finished the same races in 18th and 8th.

Switzerland's Neel Jani secured ninth in the headlining Champ Car race at the same Edmonton circuit, while South Africa's Adrian Zaugg finished seventh in the GP2 feature race at Germany's Nurburgring. Switzerland's Sebastien Buemi made his GP2 debut, but failed to score any points.
