Dyk targets Eastern Creek win

Dyk targets Eastern Creek win

01 August 2007

Australia's Ian Dyk reckons a home victory is on the cards now the Australian A1GP event has been confirmed for Eastern Creek. Following the publication of the official 2007/08 calendar, the paddock knows that the series will visit Eastern Creek for the third time on 3 February 2008.

Dyk was spotted by team principal Alan Jones at the 2005 Eastern Creek meeting, when Dyk won the Formula Three support race. Now he hopes his experience of the circuit could mean Australia will be a front-runner for a home victory.

'Certainly as a team we can work towards having our first victory later this season,' Dyk said. 'Eastern Creek is a circuit I have driven in the past. I have always been competitive in other categories there so absolutely I would love to do well. Even though it is halfway through the season, I hope that the team and I can be in quite a competitive state and working well as a team. I'd love to have a win there and I certainly think it's possible.'

The first race of the season will again be in Zandvoort, the Netherlands, one of the few circuits that Dyk did not get to experience as a rookie driver in 2006/07. 'It will be a big step for me that one,' he added. 'I did get to run a few rookie sessions last year and those will be a good platform for us to work from this season. But Zandvoort will be tough.'
