A1 Team Netherlands reveal new livery

10 August 2007

At the historic Maarsbergen estate, former home of the first Dutch F1 driver, Carel Godin de Beaufort, many press and guests witnessed the official A1 Team Netherlands presentation on Thursday.

Higlight of the team presentation was the unveiling of the new livery for team, the result of a successful design competition that saw over 1,000 design entries. In the end the spectacular design of Jan-Willem Bouwknegt of NPK was named the winner. A1 Team Netherlands will no doubt appear on track this season with a very striking design.

At the presentation there was also time to preview the upcoming A1GP season, which kicks off at Zandvoort on September 30.

We are going for the Championship, "said Jeroen Bleekemolen. "When you set your goals lower it is better not to start at all". Jan Lammers is also convinced that a title is within reach. "As a team we have made significant progression and are eager to get a good result this year".

This season Arie Luyendyk jr. will make his debut for the Netherlands in A1GP. "Some weeks ago I drove the A1GP car for the first time at the Vudel Volgas event and that was super. Then I asked my father if he could call Jan to see what the possibilities were, says Arie jr. "Jeroen's career needed a boost last year and he got this through the results in A1" says Lammers. "It would be absolutely great if for instance we could get Arie in the picture for a Champ Car seat this way".

The A1GP organisation was represented at the team presentation by CEO Pete da Silva. He was very optimistic about this season. "The popularity of the A1GP series is growing more and more. Off course people compare us to Formula 1, but many forget that Formula 1 had 60 years to develop itself to what it is nowadays, while A1GP is only 2 seasons or 22 races young. A total of 700,000 spectators visited our races last year and the TV-broadcasts were watched by 83 milion people, and the secondary broadcasts by another 140 milion. We are expecting a lot of spectacle again at Zandvoort".
