India confirms Karthikeyan

28 August 2007

Karthikeyan has been confirmed as India's driver for this week's official pre-season test at Silverstone, and the team also said in an official statement that the 30-year-old will race in 2007/08. Karthikeyan scored the country's best ever finish in A1GP in the final race of last season with fourth in Brands Hatch's Feature race.

A1 Team India seat holder Yohann Setna said: 'I'm delighted that Narain Karthikeyan will be driving for India in the third season of A1GP. This two-day test is vital to get A1 Team India well-prepared to achieve its goal of a podium in the 2007/08 season. We have worked hard over the summer to address various challenges and undertake pre-season testing. We are now serious contenders.'

Karthikeyan hopes to use the test to get himself ready for the new season, which begins at Zandvoort, the Netherlands on 30 September.

'The Silverstone session is a good chance to get used to the car, team and competitors and get A1 Team India's third season off to the best possible start,' Karthikeyan said. 'I will not be content until I win for India.'

The team will shortly unveil a new livery and news of a new television deal for the country.
