A1 Team France drew first blood at this week's official A1GP pre-season test at Silverstone this morning. Nicolas Lapierre, a veteran of 21 races for the squad, lapped the 2.6km Silverstone International circuit in 1m 10.531s in the opening three-hour test session today.
All 22 A1GP teams are present at the two-day test this week, with each working on different set-up and driver evaluation programmes. Lapierre's time was just 26 hundredths of a second off the best time achieved by an A1GP car on the circuit, recorded last year by A1 Team Malaysia's Fairuz Fauzy.
Adam Carroll did his chances of securing a place for Ireland this season a world of good by scoring the second fastest time of the morning, just 0.136 seconds off Lapierre's best.
Neel Jani secured the first fastest time for Switzerland, ahead of Jonny Reid, back for New Zealand in fourth. A1 Team India's Narain Karthikeyan secured the fifth fastest time.
The session wasn't without drama, there were red flags for a number of incidents, including spins for Malaysia's Aaron Lim and Australia's Ian Dyk.
