Janis warns of Brno advantage

03 September 2007

A1 Team Czech Republic newcomer Erik Janis has warned the rest of the grid he will have an advantage when it comes to his home race at Brno next month - despite his inexperience in A1GP.

Janis was announced before last week's Silverstone test as the team's main driver for the season, even though he hadn't driven an A1GP before then.

He admits that he will be on a steep learning curve for the first few races, however, but because of his expert knowledge of Brno where A1GP visits on 14 October, he could cause a surprise or two. 'We will have a good set up for the A1GP Czech Republic, I know that,' Janis said. 'I know the circuit very well and it will be quite a good advantage. This is the circuit that will be nice I hope.'

He will be calling on his older brother Jarek throughout this season to help him to learn the series. 'He is helping me analyse the data,' Erik added. 'He will tell me what I have to do on specific corners to improve and he will say to me things like 'What are you doing here?' and 'You are too slow at the entry of this corner' and it really helps me.

'The car is a nice experience to drive but it is a big jump up for me in power but. I just have to get as much experience as I can. I learnt a lot during the last test and I hope the next test at Silverstone [on 18 - 19 September] will be much better. The first four races at the beginning of the season will just be learning and if it works well and I have no problems then maybe we will be able to be running near the front.'
