Zaugg confirmed for Team South Africa

18 September 2007

Adrian Zaugg has been confirmed as A1 Team South Africa's lead driver for the 2007/08 season. The 20-year-old, who scored the team's maiden win at Zandvoort, the Netherlands last season will drive in the majority of races for the team this season.

'We're delighted to have Adrian for a second season of A1GP,' said Mike Carroll, general manager of A1 Team South Africa. 'He is the most suitably experienced South African currently competing in high performance open-wheel racing internationally and it is important for us to have the best person for the job in the driver's seat when fighting in the World Cup.'

Zaugg topped the times on the first day of testing at Silverstone last month, hinting that that the team could be a force to be reckoned with this season. 'We made a good start to last season, but my availability was interrupted when I had to have surgery to my forearms,' said Zaugg.

'The new season will see me able to put in a more consistent and focussed effort and I'm really excited about the opportunity. Hopefully this will assist us in delivering the results that we all know A1 Team South Africa is capable of achieving.'

Zaugg and new rookie Wesleigh Orr will drive in this week's test at Silverstone.
