A1 Team India smashed the A1GP lap record to set the quickest time of pre-season testing at Silverstone's National circuit this week. Driver Narain Karthikeyan said after the team's second place yesterday there was more time to be found in the car, and he was proved right with a sensational 47.809s lap this in this morning's session. It beat yesterday's best, set by A1 Team New Zealand's Jonny Reid, by three tenths of a second.

It was the first time India has topped any kind of official test, practice or race session in A1GP, and bodes well for the team's chances this season. However, the session again proved how close the 2007/08 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport season is going to be, with half a second covering the top 11 teams. Only 1.2 seconds were between India in first place and Mexico in 22nd.

Reid bettered his time of yesterday to finish the test in second in the Black Beauty, however he was not quite as quick as India's sky blue coloured car.

Neel Jani upped his pace from yesterday with a new tyre run, to record the third quickest time for A1 Team Switzerland.

Christian Vietoris was fourth fastest for reigning champion A1 Team Germany. The 18-year-old had set the pace at last month's official test, however, was content with completing expiatory set-up work yesterday before he set his quickest time on new tyres this morning.

A1 Team Malaysia's Alex Yoong improved setting the fifth quickest time after finishing 14th yesterday. The 31-year-old was pleased with his and the team's performance on a new-tyre run.

Less then a tenth of a second separated the next five runners with Brazil beating South Africa, Great Britain, China, Italy and Ireland. All but Netherlands and France set their quickest times today.
