Team Switzerland all set for Zandvoort curtain raiser

26 September 2007

A1 Team Switzerland is ready for the start of the new A1GP season. Under the leadership of team principal Max Welti, the team is determined to be at the top of the timesheets at all events this year, just as they have been during the preseason. The 2007-2008 driver line-up for team A1 Switzerland at Zandvoort will be Neel Jani and Sebastien Buemi. Neel Jani ended the final day of Silverstone testing in an impressive third place.

During the test A1 Team Switzerland also gave chances to two rookie lady drivers, Rahel Frey and Natacha Gachang, who will be in action after the second round of the championship at Brno. As with last year, the new season begins this weekend in the Netherlands, at the historic beachfront circuit in Zandvoort. The 2007-2008 driver line-up for team A1 Switzerland will be Neel Jani and Sebastien Buemi. However, a secret weapon this season will be the acquisition of 47-year-old Yorkshireman James Robinson on the engineering side. Robinson has engineered multiple F1 world champions, as well as two winning cars in the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Team principal Max Welti comments: "I'm really looking forward to the season starting. We're determined to do our country proud and focused on one goal: winning the title. The competition will be more intense this year and we'll have to work as hard and consistently as ever. The first race in Zandvoort will be a great moment for Team A1 Switzerland as we have a completely new team which is coming together very well."

After 11 events and 22 races around the world, A1 Team Switzerland finished the inaugural A1GP season as runners-up, winning from pole position in Dubai. In 2006-2007 they again won from the pole in Malaysia, on the way to securing another top eight championship finish.
