Teams will not be allowed to make their mandatory pit stops under safety car conditions in Sunday's feature race, stewards have announced. Last season, teams were not allowed to make stops while the safety car was out, however this rule is to be freed up for this season, giving teams the option of many strategies come race day.
However, as a change for Zandvoort only, teams will not be able to pit should the safety car come out. Stewards have decided that because the Zandvoort pit lane is shorter than most, it could be unsafe if many cars chose to pit simultaneously, as often happens when a safety car comes out.
With the change, the team strategists will now have even more to work on tonight with several pit stop scenarios possible. Tomorrow's Feature race marks the first A1GP race with two mandatory pit stops.
Teams must make their first pit stop between laps eight and 16 for the first stop, and they will only find out the window for the second stop once the pit lane is open for the start of the Feature.
