Carroll shows promise for Ireland

12 October 2007

A1 Team Ireland's new signing Adam Carroll enjoyed a competitive first day in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport at the picturesque Brno circuit in the Czech Republic, the Portadown driver setting the 5th and 6th fastest times respectively in Friday's two practice sessions.

Fresh from completing his GP2 season, Adam was back behind the wheel of Team Ireland's A1GP car for the first time since his test at Silverstone back in August, but he was quickly on the pace and trading times with the other top six drivers. In second practice the team began making some set-up changes, and are very confident that Adam can produce a strong performance over the course of the weekend.

"Today went well - I was having a few issues with the back of the car stepping out of line into the corners, but we started making some good changes and I am happy with where we are in terms of being ready for tomorrow," said Carroll. "It was good on the new tyres this afternoon - I had used quite old tyres in the Rookie Session - and I'm looking forward to qualifying. Hopefully it should be good."

Dan Walmsley, race engineer commented, "We've had a very solid day today and with the changes we made during practice we are know there's more to come tomorrow. Given that it's been quite a few weeks since Adam drove the car and he had to reacclimatize to the Cooper Avon tyres the times were good and we know what we need to do. I think we are in good shape."
