Reigning A1GP World Cup of Motorsport champion A1 Team Germany has announced the identity of the new driver who will race in Malaysia - Michael Ammermuller.
The 21-year-old will finally get his chance to race for the team at A1GP Sepang, Malaysia on 25 November, having tested for it at Silverstone in the summer of 2006. After that test, Nico Hulkenberg was chosen as the team's lead driver for 2006/07 and went on to set a record nine victories before helping the team secure the overall title.
Ammermuller has never raced at Sepang, so will use Friday's morning's rookie sessions to become acquainted with the 3.44-mile circuit.
Christian Vietoris, who raced in the first two meetings of this season for the team, is unable to be in Malaysia because he was already committed to testing a BMW Sauber Formula One car, which was his prize drive for winning the Formula BMW World final in November 2006. 'I'm delighted to get a second chance with A1 Team Germany,' admitted Ammermuller. 'It's extra motivation to start for the defending champions. Even though I've never driven at this interesting circuit I want to show that I earned this seat by getting a good result in Malaysia.
'I'm up against a lot of good drivers. I know some of them already from other series. It's a great challenge.'
When he takes the start in Sepang, Ammermuller will become the sixth different driver to race for the team since A1GP launched in 2005.
