A1 Team Great Britain set the early pace as practice for this weekend's A1GP Sepang, Malaysia got underway.
Double A1GP race winner Oliver Jarvis, competing in his final rookie practice before he becomes ineligible, set a blistering lap of 1m 52.013s, three quarters of a second quicker than the rest of the field in the hot and humid conditions.
The time showed that A1 Team Great Britain will be a force to be reckoned with this weekend - it was two seconds quicker than the fastest time in the corresponding rookie session last season, and only half a second off the fastest time recorded during qualifying in last year's meeting.
Brazil's Sergio Jiminez continued to get to grips with A1GP, recording the second quickest time ahead of Australia's John Martin. Martin, whose only A1GP experience to date is a brief pre-season test at Silverstone and the Brno rookie session, continued to impress with his times. Having been classified fourth in Brno, he went one better, recording the third fastest time in the hour.
Italy's debutant Edoardo Piscopo was an impressive fourth for Italy, ahead of renowned track expert Earl Bamber, who recorded the fifth fastest time for championship leaders New Zealand.
There were some drivers who had problems however - it was a nightmare A1GP start for Michael Ammemuller, who completed just four laps.
The 21-year-old failed to get much track experience after rolling to a halt just meters after exiting the pit lane with mechanical problems. He will now face a steep learning curve for the rest of the weekend.
Canada also had problems, after Robert Wickens went off track, complaining of steering difficulties.
