A1 Team Netherlands has been given a 42-second penalty for this morning's Sprint race after being judged to have jumped the rolling start. The penalty drops them from eighth to 20th, losing the three points it scored.
The reason for the length of the penalty is because that is the equivalent time it would take to serve a drive-through penalty, the sanction for such an offence. Because stewards wanted to investigate the incident thoroughly, the equivalent penalty was only awarded after the race had finished.
The penalty means that Ireland and Italy get an extra point. In addition A1 Team Malaysia scores its first points of the season by taking tenth place.
