Quinn wins rookie seat at Team Ireland

05 December 2007

Niall Quinn, has won the chance to be A1 Team Ireland's rookie in Eastern Creek, Australia later this season after wining a special prize in association with the country's national motorsport association.

Motorsport Ireland and A1 Team Ireland joined forces to give the winner of the annual Dunlop Racing Driver of the Year a chance to be a rookie at A1GP Sydney, Eastern Creek this season.

Nineteen-year-old Quinn competed in the Formula BMW UK championship in 2006, before finishing seventh in the equivalent German series this season.

Quinn won the award after demonstrating his skills to a panel of judges against two other short-listed drivers.

'Niall will be a magnificent addition to the team in Australia and we're really looking forward to it,' said A1 Team Ireland seat holder Mark Kershaw.
'It's great for all three of the finalists as its fantastic to see all the motorsport talent coming out of Ireland at the moment.

'It's been good working with Motorsport Ireland to help promote young Irish talent and we will be looking to work with them again in the not too distant future.'

Regular driver Adam Carroll joined the series in Brno, but will become ineligible to compete in the rookie session from Sydney onwards.
