Jarvis to race for Great Britain in China

10 December 2007

Oliver Jarvis has again been called up by A1 Team Great Britain to race for it in Zhuhai, China next week - however he will be joined by a new rookie in Danny Watts. Jarvis, who won the Feature race in Zandvoort in September, drove for the team in Malaysia last month and his pace then has convinced team officials to give the 23-year-old the chance to race at the 4.3-km track of Zhuhai, a new track to A1GP.

'I'm really happy to be back in the British car again after a difficult weekend in Malaysia,' Jarvis said. 'We didn't get the results we deserved at Sepang, but we were definitely quick, so we're going to Zhuhai feeling confident.

'I'm looking forward to driving a new track, which will be new to the majority of drivers, so it will be extremely important to make the most of the practice sessions on Friday and Saturday. It will be interesting to see which teams learn the track the quickest.'

However, for the first time in A1GP, Jarvis will be ineligible for Friday morning's rookie session, because he has now competed in more than the limit of six races that participation in the session allows.

The squad has therefore recruited Danny Watts, 2002 Formula Renault UK champion and a race winner in British Formula Three and the Porsche Carrera Cup. He is not completely new to A1GP machinery however, having driven the plain biofuel-powered test car in the off-season. 'It's a privilege to be asked to drive for A1 Team Great Britain in Zhuhai,' Watts said. 'I will be contributing 100 per cent to the team both in and out of the car throughout the weekend in order for us to have the best opportunity to achieve two strong results, and hopefully a couple of wins to boost us up the championship table.

'I obviously want to be quickest in the rookie session, but I also intend to make sure the car is prepared with the best set-up possible in order for Olly to get in and win.'
