Switzerland aims to extend winning streak

10 December 2007

After a sensational event at Sepang, which saw A1 Team Switzerland secure a double victory and take the championship lead from New Zealand, the team now travels to the 4.3km Zhuhai circuit to compete in the fourth leg of the A1 Grand Prix World Cup of Motorsports season on 16 December, the first of two visits to China this season.

Young Swiss rookie Alexandre Imperatori will represent his country during the rookie session at Zhuhai while Neel Jani will again be at the wheel for the two races. Alexandre Imperatori lived in Zhuhai as his team (Asia Racing Team) was based at the track and will compete at the circuit for the seventh time when he takes the wheel of the A1GP car.

Meanwhile Neel Jani has never driven on the Zhuhai track. "I am still so happy with the excellent result in Malaysia and I hope that I can learn the Zhuhai circuit quickly to achieve a similar result again. I have never driven here, but I'm sure I'm going to like this track. It is not too technical but it is demanding on the brakes and it is important to find the right lines out of the turns to keep the momentum up. The track features lots of potential for overtaking with two long straights of 900 and 500 meters and a long, 14 metre wide pit straight. I'm looking forward to getting back to racing this weekend."

Max Welti, team principal, A1 Team Switzerland comments: "Leading the championship, our third season in A1 Grand Prix is going well. Our car is fast and our package is competitive. I am hopeful that our engineers will have a good chance to again prepare a high level performance with Neel Jani on the challenging Zhuhai track. Our rookie Alexandre Imperatori has never been in the car yet, but he knows the track well enough to bring a lot of information to the team."
