Enge returns to A1 action

Enge returns to A1 action

12 December 2007

Former A1GP Feature race winner Tomas Enge is returning to driving duties for A1 Team Czech Republic, in Zhuhai this weekend. The 31-year-old, a veteran of 32 caps for his country, has not driven an A1GP car for ten months, after suffering injuries in a sportscar accident in the United States.

Enge was nominated as a potential driver for his home round in the Brno in October, however 19-year-old Erik Janis was given the nod for the meeting, along with the other two meetings this season held in in Zandvoort and Sepang. Janis will be in China this weekend, acting as the team's rookie driver.

Enge will have a bit of an advantage over the majority of the field this weekend, as a driver who has previously raced at the new-to-A1GP Zhuhai International Circuit. Enge was on the podium in his class in an FIA GT race at the track held earlier this year.

"It is not going to be easy due to the long break and also my elbow," Enge said. "My arm, which I injured in April's ALMS race at St. Petersburg, is not causing any problems under normal stress but we have to wait and see how it will react to the biggest possible stress in A1GP. A1GP cars demand more power and it brings therefore bigger stress for the elbow. Hopefully, everything will be okay and I will race. It should be clear after Friday's practice."
