Teams will not be allowed to make either of their mandatory Feature race pit stops under Safety Car conditions in Zhuhai this weekend, officials have said.
Because the pit lane is shorter in length than others that A1GP uses, race stewards have decided to make the rule change on safety grounds for this weekend. The opening meeting at Zandvoort had similar pit stop restrictions.
While teams will still be able to pit should a safety car come out, it will not count as one of their mandatory stops.
The move has possible implications on race strategy. In the last round in Sepang where there was a longer pit lane, the majority of the field simultaneously chose to make their mandatory pit stop under safety car conditions, leading to frantic scenes and a race for the lead after the pit lane exit.
All countries must make two pit stops in the Feature race, which will be 45 laps. The Sprint race will be 14 laps.
