Khan targets first Pakistan podium

Khan targets first Pakistan podium

28 January 2008

A1 Team Pakistan's Adam Khan is now targeting the squad's maiden podium after scoring its first points finish of the season in Taupo.

Khan was eventually classified tenth in the Feature race in New Zealand, after the USA was demoted as a result of a penalty for a pit stop violation. It coincided with a change in several members of the team's engineering personnel that weekend.

Khan scored Pakistan's best finish - fifth - in Shanghai's Feature race in the inaugural season, and is now aiming to go at least two places better. 'Everyone came in and did a fantastic job in Taupo,' said Khan. 'Hopefully we can get some more points in the next race or maybe even a podium - who knows? We've got the pace to have a really good race next time. We just have to make qualifying a bit better.

'Everybody in the team is gelling well and is really genuine and helpful. Everyone did a great job in everything they did this weekend.'

The 22-year-old says he is looking forward to the races at Eastern Creek this weekend because it is one the circuits he knows better from when he raced with Pakistan in 2005/06. He added: 'It's one of those tracks, even though it was two years ago, that is one of the freshest in my memory. I really enjoyed it. In the first season I did alright there, I was up to fifth place before the pit stops so I'm really looking forward to going back.'
