Garza feels sorry for his team

22 February 2008

A1 Team Mexico did not get out for this afternoon's free practice following a big crash in this morning's rookie session. David Garza hit the concrete wall harshly on the exit of the quick turn 6/7 chicane in the session. He was not injured and was able to get out of the car unaided.

However, the car's chassis was damaged beyond repair, and the team was forced to miss this afternoon's hour-long free practice session. It will now spend the night preparing one of A1GP's spare chassis for its use for the rest of the weekend.

'I was pushing hard because you really have to attack the chicane to go quickly here at Durban,' Garza explained. 'I hit the kerb wrongly and it just launched me straight into the wall. I had no brakes or steering or anything. I put it in the wall pretty good. You could call it a freak angle because the front nose cone just sheered off.

'We now need to change chassis and I just feel bad for the guys who have to build a complete race car by tomorrow.

'I know we had a good car, and I feel at home on street tracks. I was trying as hard as I could but I made a mistake. I have to learn from that and come back stronger tomorrow.'
