Zaugg apologizes to Bleekemolen

25 February 2008

Adrian Zaugg has apologised following the incident that brought a premature end to this afternoon's Feature race in Durban. Zaugg's ambitious move at the first turn, just after a safety car period had finished, caused a five car pile-up. He had outbraked himself down the inside at the first corner, mounted the kerbing on the inside and collided with the cornering Netherlands car of Jeroen Bleekemolen.

The A1 Team South Africa driver was fined for his part in the accident, but got to keep his points for seventh place.

'I'm really sorry for what happened,' said Zaugg after the race. 'I didn't keep my brakes and tyres warm enough while we were behind the safety car before the restart.

'I was crowded into a tighter line into the hairpin than I'd taken at any other time and it was very slippery there. I couldn't stop the car in time and when I hit the curb I lost control of the car and ran into the side of the Netherlands.'
