Germany: 'All out for victory now'

Germany: 'All out for victory now'

13 March 2008

A1 Team Germany has vowed to go all out for as many race victories as possible for the rest of this season, after publicly admitting it has given up hopes of successfully defending the title.

Michael Ammermuller will again race for the squad in Mexico City this weekend, coming off the back of zero points weekend in Durban last month. He was disqualified from the meeting's Sprint race after a collision with A1 Team Netherlands' Jeroen Bleekemolen, but was the innocent party in the Feature race, when he was eliminated as the result of a multi-car crash.

Even though the team is still 41 points adrift of title leader Switzerland, with 96 up for grabs in the remaining six races, Germany seat holder Willi Weber believes that it is unlikely the team will make up the deficit now. Instead the team will adopt aggressive approaches to the final three events. 'We're still the champion team,' said Weber. 'But we're aware of the fact that we won't be bearing this title much longer. After claiming two victories so far this season, we definitely still had chances of winning the title.

'Unfortunately, we were deprived of them after the circumstances at Durban, which have been the subject of much discussion. Consequently, from now on, we're shooting for good individual results. No doubt, all the teams as well as the spectators are looking forward to two thrilling races.'

Ammermuller is hoping that a better result in qualifying this weekend will mean that he doesn't get caught up in similar incidents to those in Durban. 'It was frustrating not being able to apply the good results we achieved in the free practice sessions at Durban in qualifying,' said the 21-year-old. 'In the end we retired from the Feature race due to an accident that happened at the start.

'We want to try and deliver a more consistent performance throughout the weekend in Mexico.'
