New chicane in Mexico

New chicane in Mexico

13 March 2008

There will be a small change to the course at this weekend's A1GP Mexico, Mexico City, which could make the races even more exciting. Last season's A1GP Mexico, Mexico City was one of the best rounds of the year, with the super-wide main straight providing lap after lap of wheel-to-wheel action.

This season, there will be an additional chicane at the end of the long straight before the final Peraltada corner, which should create an additional opportunity to pass.

Such circuit alterations have been made previously this season. In Taupo, New Zealand in January, a tighter left-hand corner was added at the end of the longest straight, which resulted in more passing - and frankly, incidents.

The move should also increase safety. There is no run off area and just a concrete wall on the outside of the high-speed Peraltada corner, this move should also make the race safer by decreasing entry speed and limiting the momentum of any impact.
