Karthikeyan's wrist doing well

Karthikeyan's wrist doing well

14 March 2008

A1 Team India's Narain Karthikeyan believes the wrist injury that stopped him racing in Durban will not affect his performance in Mexico City. Karthikeyan has been given the all-clear to return to action this weekend following the practice accident in Durban, which meant the sky blue Indian car was raced by rookie team-mate Partiva Sureshwaren.

The injury is still giving him some slight discomfort, but he believes the team should still be able to get itself out of the dip in form it has suffered since winning the Feature race in Zhuhai.

'The wrist is now pretty good,' Karthikeyan said. 'I've had a lot of physiotherapy done on it and it is now very strong. I have a little bit of swelling in one finger, but it should be fine.

'In Durban I felt the pain so much when on the kerbs, and it was such a bumpy circuit that I just couldn't do race. I was advised to take a rest because if I had aggravated it then I could have damaged it and the last races this season could have been a problem.

'We have been in a slump for three races so we need to try and get back out of it. We need to try and get some points and be competitive like we were in the beginning of the season. The car was not so bad here last year, so we have a basic set-up and we are going to take it from there.'
