Adam Carroll took Ireland to its first ever pole position in qualifying for the sprint race at Chengdu, China. Great Britain's Danny Watts took pole for the feature race.
Watts set the fastest time of the weekend so far in 1m15.325s on a cicruit that is brand new to the series this season.
There were incidents early on in qualifying as Italy suffered a broken front wishbone and went off into the gravel. Recovering the car took so long that the second sprint race qualifying segment was cancelled. Carroll's time of 1m15.423s was therefore good enough for pole ahead of the Netherlands.
In qualifying for the feature race France's Nicolas Prost went off into the gravel on a very quick lap causing a red flag. In the end Watt's strong lap was good enough to qualifying on pole ahead of Carroll and Switzerland.
