Portugal took its first A1GP victory today in the feature race at Chengdu, China. Filipe Albuquerque fended off sprint race winner Adam Carroll to take the victory while Britain's Danny Watts took the final step on the podium.
At the start Robert Doornbos stalled the Dutch car on the grid causing the safety car to be deployed while his car was removed. As the safety car came in, Britain made a good start from pole while Ireland was challenging Portugal for second place. Down the field Mexico and Indonesia went spinning off together.
As the pit stop period opened, Portugal stayed out later and with it ended up taking the lead of the race after having made its stop. From there Portugal never looked back and stormed on to the victory.
