France takes first blood in Sepang rookie practice

It was A1 Team France atop of the timesheets following this morning's Rookie practice sessions for the Malaysian round of the series. Having been drafted into the team at the start of November, Nicolas Prost produced the fastest lap which was over four tenths of a second faster than the second placed A1 Team GBR for this weekend's races at scorching Sepang.

In dry conditions, team New Zealand completed the top three with Earl Bamber back at the wheel, ahead of local hero and championship leader Aaron Lim in fourth position despite being over a second off the pace. After demonstrating the French car's pace, Prost will be handing it back over to regular driver Loic Duval for the remainder of the weekend.

Second in the standings, A1 Team Ireland are currently struggling as Niall Quinn's fastest lap was some three seconds off the pace. With Switzerland failing to complete a flying lap due to gearbox problems, Indonesia posted the slowest lap of the 15-turn, 5.543km circuit with a time of 1.54.903 which is in stark contrast to the 1.50.679 of Prost. All lap times today will contribute greatly to any success achieved in Sunday's races, the first of which gets underway at 03:00 local time, 19:00 GMT.
