Earl Bamber will return to race for A1 Team New Zealand in A1GP Gauteng next weekend - however the team insists the move has nothing to do with Chris van der Drift's performance in Taupo.

Bamber has been one of the finds of the season in A1GP, scoring three medals and a sixth place in his four caps with the team. He has so far shared the drive with Formula Master champion van der Drift, but Bamber's results have far eclipsed his team-mate's. The team also chose not to call back its most capped driver, Jonny Reid.
"The decision to put Earl in the car was made between the engineering team and myself," said Colin Giltrap, A1 Team New Zealand seat holder.
"We're confident Earl can do the job for New Zealand in South Africa. While Chris van der Drift wasn't able to stand out at Taupo, we still believe he's a talented driver. The decision to put Earl back in the car has nothing to do with Chris's ability as a driver."
Having only competed in four races, Bamber is still eligible to be a rookie in the meeting, earning an extra one-hour's practice on Friday morning to help familiarise himself with the Kyalami circuit.
The 18-year-old has been in the United Kingdom on a special training schedule to help him deal with the high altitude and hot conditions expected to be seen next weekend at the circuit just outside Johannesburg. "I'm really excited to be back with the team for the next round of A1GP racing," said Bamber. "I feel the fittest I've ever been after the intensive training, so combined with a solid review of Taupo I feel we're in a good place as we head to South Africa."
"As a team we need to make sure we keep banking points, but I'd like to be back on the podium at Kyalami. We can't forget that the other nations have also made some good progress with the new car, however."
