Bamber retained by New Zealand for Algarve

08 April 2009

Earl Bamber has been confirmed to represent A1 Team New Zealand for the Algarve's upcoming two races this weekend. The news is significant as, for the first this season, the team has elected to brake the chain of rotating its drives venue-by-venue.

"This continuity will allow the quick young Kiwi the chance to continue to build on his pace from the previous round at Kyalami," a team statement explained. "With Bamber back in Black Beauty for the second round in a row, hopes are that New Zealand can work its way up the points table, with three rounds remaining in the championship."

This will be the last weekend Bamber takes part in rookie practice, as he will lose his rookie status after competing in his sixth race. "This weekend we'll have our feet on the ground and have our heads down, focusing on some strong results, and it's nice to have some continuity in our programme" he said. "The circuit has some nice high-speed, sweeping corners which will be really taxing on the neck."

The team is still yet to announce, however, it's line-up for the three following rounds at Brands Hatch, Interlagos and in Mexico City, and whether or not Bamber's team-mate, Chris van der Drift, will be back in the car this season.
