A1 Team France and Nicolas Prost have set the fastest lap of Brands Hatch in Friday's rookie practice, beating the Kent circuit's track record for A1 Grand Prix in the process. On a title-deciding weekend, the leading contender was second with Switzerland, as the American car rounded out the top three positions.
A1 Team GBR's record of season two was comprehensively destroyed on Friday as the French car lapped in 1.13.683, beating the Swiss entry by just over a tenth of a second. With the lap record already broken by 1.3 seconds, however, the pace is already hotter than ever at Brands as the cars now run with Ferrari power.
Prost was pleased to finish his last ever rookie session with first position, as Ireland - the only other of the three title contending countries in the session - rounded off its early afternoon running in fifth with Niall Quinn.
John Hildebrand Jr was satisfied with third place for the USA, as he finally gets the chance to prove his metal in the races this weekend. It was not a trouble-free session, though, as a spin for Monaco's Hubertus Bahlsen at Druids Hill Bend resulted in a brief stoppage of proceedings.
The next session takes place just two and a half hours after the conclusion of second rookie practice.
