Carroll: "It's Ireland's title to lose"

Adam Carroll has admitted it is 'Ireland's title to lose' after his superb double pole position in qualifying today. With the A1GP championship battle too close to call, it was an enormous boost for Ireland not only to take both pole positions, but also for its rivals for the title, Switzerland and Portugal, to not qualify directly alongside him for either race.

"It always has been our title to lose this season, frankly," he told A1GP.com. "We've been leading most of it and that's all we have ever thought about. Yes, that's pressure, but I am just going to go out there tomorrow and win it for the team and for myself.

"I'm not taking anything for granted, because the job is only half done. There are two long races tomorrow but it's a great start to the weekend to have a car I could get pole position with."

It was the first time one team had annexed the top spot since the new PowerBoost qualifying rule was introduced, giving teams the chance to run a joker lap in one of the four segments. "I wish we could have got some points for today, but the main thing is to start from the front. It hopefully gives me a chance to stay clean and not get caught up in something," Carroll said.

"If everything works as it should do this weekend and we perform the best that we can, then we will be very hard to beat."
