The calendar for the 2009-2010 season has been given the green light by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council (WMSC). The championship will kick off on Australia's Gold Coast for the first time as A1GP shares the Surfers Paradise pit lane with the V8 Supercar Series, making for a spectacular start to the campaign.

With ten meetings equalling a total of 20 races, the season will kick off on the weekend of Thursday 22 - Sunday 25 October, running through until the spring of next year. "We are in a totally different position to most series as we straddle two calendar years," explained A1GP series chairman Tony Teixeira. "This makes announcing a calendar, with all its dates and venues, more challenging. However, we are well advanced with all our Season Five contracts and, for those we have yet to make public, we have plans to announce them with events in the specific countries."
With the season-opening Surfers venue making its first appearance on the calendar, Holland's Assen will also be seen for the first time alongside a number of more regular stop-off points. "Our plans include some very exciting new venues that I can assure will be very popular with the teams and the fans," Teixeira continued. "While at the moment we have submitted a ten-race calendar, I am hopeful of adding one or two more dates in the coming months."
